Research Long Island

Formed during the Ice Age, Long Island is located on the southeastern tip of New York State and home to Fire Island, Shelter Island, The Hamptons and Montauk Point. The island juts out some 118 miles from New York Harbor and is surrounded by Long Island Sound, the Atlantic Ocean and Block Island Sound. The island includes portions of Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the economy has long benefited from its proximity to New York City. Long Island is rich in history and offers diversity, glamour, excitement and solitude all in just 125 miles. Home to the rich and famous, this area is known for its affluence, extremely low crime rate and one of the highest costs of living in the country. It is also the largest island and one of the most densely populated regions in the country. Still, you can find hundreds of miles of pristine beaches, over 30 wineries, incredible shopping, world-class dining, antiquing and plenty of family-friendly destinations.
