Research Baltimore Area

Located on the shores of Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore is a bustling port city that's steeped in history, rich in arts and culture and strong on professional sports action. Named in 1729 for Lord Baltimore, this city was the site of a major battle with the British during the War of 1812, which inspired the writing of The Star Spangled Banner. Today, Maryland's largest city is the state's major industrial and arts center and home to 15 colleges, galleries, museums and historical sights. Baltimore's neighborhoods--from Little Italy to historic Fell's Point and the artsy Mount Vernon--remain true to its diverse immigrant population and maritime roots. The Inner Harbor has always been the heart of the city. Today, it is a world-class entertainment and shopping district that includes the National Aquarium. Baltimore is also home to major and minor league baseball, football, lacrosse, hockey and indoor soccer teams as well as Pimlico Race Course, home of The Preakness.
